Helen Sherman was born in Bathurst and moved to Sydney to pursue her
singing career at the age of seventeen. Her stage debut was at the age
of three singing, dancing and playing the piano at the Bathurst
Eisteddfod. At ten she joined Bathurst's Carillon Theatrical Society in
shows such as Annie, Bye Bye, Birdie, The Sound of
Music and Me and My Girl then, at 16 she was chosen to
sing the national anthem at the Bathurst V8 Super Car Championships,
broadcast to millions internationally.

A
recent Graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Helen last year
obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Opera, under the direction Dr.
Rowena Cowley, having already gained a Bachelor of Music Performance
from the Conservatorium in 2003.

As a
member of the choirs of Christ Church St. Laurence and the Sydney
Conservatorium Chamber Choir, Helen has toured internationally, singing
in Westminster Abbey in London, Notre Dame and La Madeleine in Paris,
Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Smokey Mary’s in New York, the Vienna
Festival, and the Béla Bartók International Music Festival in Hungary.

Helen has featured as a soloist and chorister on ABC Classic FM and 2MBS
FM on numerous occasions. Her roles include Grand Duchess of Monteblanco
in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Opera School production of Lennox
Berkely’s A Dinner Engagement, Lisetta in Haydn’s Il mondo
della luna, cousin Hebe in Rockdale Municipal Opera’s HMS
Pinafore and third lady in Pacific Opera's Magic Flute.
Helen can be seen regularly around Sydney performing with groups such
as Cantillation, Pinchgut Opera, Opera Australia, Willoughby Symphony
Orchestra and Choir, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and the Choir of Christ
Church St. Laurence in works including Mozart’s Idomeneo and
Requiem, Handel's Dixit Dominus and The Messiah,
Scarlatti's Stabat Mater, Vaughan Williams' Mass in G minor
and Mendelsshon’s Elijah.

Helen won The Evelyn Hall de Izal Memorial Award for Mezzo Soprano at
the 2006 MacDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge, was featured as a
Finalist in the 2006 2MBS FM Young Performer Award and qualified to the
Semi Finals of the MacDonald’s Operatic Aria. Also in 2006 Helen was
awarded a Helpmann Family Trust Scholarship, and is a recipient of
scholarships from Ars Musica Australis, The Opera and Arts Support
Group, the Dame Joan Sutherland Society and the Sydney Conservatorium of
Music. Helen hopes to continue her studies internationally in pursuit of
a solo singing career.
