Mary-Jean O'Doherty

Mary-Jean was born in Houston, Texas to an Australian father and a Greek-born mother of Armenian descent and raised in Greenville, North Carolina.  But although Mary-Jean Anais O'Doherty was raised in the United States, she feels that her musical life didn't fully begin until she moved to Australia two years ago at the age of 23.  She counts herself enormously appreciative of the generous lucky-breaks and encouragement Australia has given her.  The first was having the good fortune to study singing with Arax Mansourian.  The second was being a semi-finalist in the ABC television-show Operatunity Oz where she received encouragement and inspiration from everyone involved, especially adjudicator and singing teacher Anna Connelly.  Thirdly, she counts herself lucky for having been part of the enormously successful production of Opera Australia's Pirates of Penzance which has allowed her to not only sing on the stage of the Sydney Opera House, but also work with world-class artists, conductors and professionals while touring Australia.
