Katharine completed the Bachelor of Music programme at the University of Sydney in 2003 studying voice with Dr Rowena Cowley. Following this she undertook a study trip to New York. She is currently enrolled in the Diploma of Opera course at the Sydney Conservatorium, which she will complete at the end of this year.

She has already achieved considerable recognition as a young artist having won the Marianne Mathy Scholarship at the Australian Singing Competition in Perth in 2002. In 2003 she was awarded the 2nd place encouragement Award in the McDonald’s Operatic Aria Competition. Other awards have included the Operatic Voice section of the McDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge in 2002 and the Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Scholarship in 2001.

Katharine has given numerous recitals and participated in concerts both for charity and for organisations such as the National Lieder Society, Joan Sutherland Society, the Australian Society of Keyboard Music, Mozart Requiem for Macquarie University Music Society and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

In 2003 she performed all three mezzo roles in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman for Sydney University Madrigal Society and made her first recording in a new Oratorio, Hallel for our Times, by Shelly Olsen.

Early in 2005 Katharine returned from several months study at Rome Opera under the guidance of Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti, as part of the Opera Foundation Australia Barilla Award, where her studies included the title role of Tancredi.

After completing her studies in Opera at the Sydney Conservatorium, she continued her studies overseas, using the Mathy Scholarship to help develop her musical aspirations, particularly in the field of opera.

As well as singing in productions at the Sydney Conservatorium Opera School in 2006 (including the Haydn opera La Fedelta imprimiata) Katharine sang again for Macquarie University Singers in Israel in Egypt, performed in La Rondine with Sydney Symphony and L’Enfant et les Sortileges with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Katharine travelled to Europe to compete in the Neue Stimmen Competition in Germany and participated in the prestigious Merola Program Summer School at San Francisco Opera.

From January 2007 she joined the San Francisco Opera Adler Young Artist Program for two years.
