2008 MATHY FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

‘AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT!’

4 FINALISTS FOR CONCERT IN OPERA HOUSE

At the 2008 Mathy Awards Semi-Finals, the Adjudicators selected an equal balance of sopranos and baritones to compete at the Finals Concert on Tuesday 28th October.

                                                   Nicole Car (VIC) Soprano 22
                                                   Sky Ingram (WA) Soprano 24
                                                   Michael Lampard (TAS) Baritone 22
                                                   Sitiveni Talei (WA) Baritone 25

National Adjudicator Deborah Riedel said that the judging panel deliberated long and hard and, although the decision was difficult, they were unanimous in their choice.   She added, “It has been a delight to hear both in the Heats and Semis some of the wonderful talent young Australian singers have to offer…… I’m sure you will agree ‘Australia’s Got Talent’!”

These young performers will ‘strut their stuff’ on the stage of Sydney Opera House with the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra* conducted by Brian Castles-Onion. They are competing for a huge array of prizes and opportunities in excess of $80,000 cash alone including the prestigious Marianne Mathy Scholarship of $30,000!

If the Semi-Finals Concert was any guide, this should be a night of fine music and exceptional voices.  The standard of the Semi-Finalists was high and bodes well for the future of classical singing in Australia.

*The performance of the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra at the Finals Concert is proudly sponsored by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture (Chairman Dr Haruhisa Handa).
