Eligibility
- To be eligible for nomination in the Opera
Awards, a singer must:
- a) be an Australian citizen or resident
- b) have sung at least 2 principal roles
with a recognised professional opera company
since January 2006 and provide proof
of same.
- There is no age limit.
- 2.
Repertoire/Requirements
- Participants must submit the following:
- a) a recent CD recording of
the singer performing four (4) arias in the original language (at least two
different languages) with piano accompaniment only;
- b) a complete and clearly written proposal
and evaluation, with detailed budget, of the study/singing activity for
which funding is required (noting that the majority of the funds must be
used overseas);
- c) current CV (including age which is a
requirement for one of the prizes);
- d) an administration fee of $50.

Adjudication
- An adjudication panel comprising a
conductor/repetiteur (Chair), a male singer and a female singer will
determine the Finalists after consideration of the
recordings and proposals.

- The Finals will be conducted privately in
Sydney on Friday 22nd August 2008 when Finalists will perform some or
all of the 4 items on the submitted recording. They will also be interviewed
by the adjudicators regarding their proposals and some additional technical/vocal
demonstration may be requested.

- An official accompanist will be engaged
for this session and a one hour
rehearsal will be allotted to each Finalist. A legible bound copy
of the music will be
required by the accompanist in advance of the rehearsal.

Announcement of awards
- All prizewinners will be advised in
writing by Friday 29th August 2008.

Winner of the Opera Awards
- The winner must be
available to perform at the Mathy Awards Finals Concert in the Opera
Theatre, Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 28th October with the Australian
Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by Brian Castles-Onion. The
winner must be available to rehearse on Monday 27th October and Tuesday 28th
October (exact times to be advised).

will also be required at
a mutually acceptable time.
